Lifers not to start hunger strike?
The news spread in the media, that the lifers in “Nubarashen” prison have decided to start a joint hunger strike on September 15, doesn’t correspond to the reality. Gor Ghlechyan, Head of Public Relations of the MoJ Penitentiary Department, told “A1+”. To note, it is about lifers, who have spent 20 years in prison and are asking to review their cases. He also noted that the issue of changes in the prison regime of lifers, who have spent more than 20 years in prison, remains at the center of attention, “A bill has been developed and it is under discussion. For now several amendments have been made for easing their punishment.” Mr. Ghlechyan reminded that this year the regime of 8 lifers has been turned from closed to semi-closed, and 4 more- last year.
