Lifer's condition remains grave
Lifer Soghomon Kocharyan, who has already served 21 years of a life sentence in Armenia’s prisons, is still in hospital. Lawyer Grisha Balasanyan told A1+ that Kocharyan’s medical condition remains grave, though stable. He is suffering from ischemic heart disease His worsening health condition warrants professional medical monitoring but the Independent commission has not convened a meeting to discuss his health. The lawyer says the process is very slow and takes a long time and the final decision is to be announced by court. “If a person is a higher value, they should think of his health and convene a sitting as soon as possible. Every minute is important for Soghomon Kocharyan,” said Grisha Balasanyan. The lawyer has applied to Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan and Arthur Osikyan, Head of Justice Ministry's Penitentiary Department to speed up the process. The lifer was transferred to hospital on August 26. Soghomon’s health deteriorated from the war, his 20 years behind bars, the death of his wife, and the suicide of his daughter.
