8000 children and more than 27000 young people with disabilities live in Armenia. Very often summer holidays don’t apply to them. Seryozha Ohanjanyan, Chairman of “Echo” NGO supporting kids and youth with disabilities, expresses his concern about this issue. “Today in Armenia there is no summer camp for the people with disabilities. When we inform the state agencies about our concerns, that people with disabilities don’t have any place for holidays with the people who don’t have such problems, they respond that they will build a camp intended for the people with disabilities.” Seryozha Ohanjanyan recalls a story, when in one of schools a child wasn’t allowed to go on holidays financed by the Municipality on the grounds that he has a disability, “We voiced that issue and next time that child will go on holiday, in such cases people with disabilities are simply treated unfairly.” Entrance to universities, as well as buses, some state buildings remains a problem for the people with disabilities. “There are 10 buses in Armenia, which have been adapted to the people with disabilities. It is expected that 10 more buses will be adapted, but this issue has been postponed for uncertain time,” notes Mr. Ohanjanyan.
