UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture unable to answer question
Armenia plays an important role in the cultural sector, especially in intercultural dialogue, Alfredo Pérez de Armiñán, Assistant Director-General for Culture at UNESCO, said during an international conference titled 'Cultural policy and policy for culture: the role of culture in sustainable development in post-2015 agenda.” He says Armenia’s participation in this intercultural dialogue helps the country acquire its own identity in the cultural history. Will UNESCO take practical steps against Armenia’s neighbours that are destroying the country’s cultural heritage there? Alfredo Pérez de Armiñán first said he could not answer the question as he did not want to interfere in the the multifaceted relations between countries. Then he added, “Some of UNESCO Conventions aim at preserving cultural heritage. The governments also have a great role in this respect. Our leverages depend on our committees operating in different countries butsometimes they are unable to make collective decisions.”
