Founding Parliament claims Sefilyan is being followed: Police dismiss reports
We have not been instructed to pursue the member of the Founding Parliament movement Zhirayr Sefilyan, a senior represnetative of the Public Relations and Information Department of the Armenian Police told A1+. Armen Malkhasyan said this when commenting on the Founding Parliament’s statement that men in police uniforms and in plainclothes are chasing Sefilyan. “We do not have such information. How did they know that those are plainclothes police officers? Police are carrying out their functions. I cannot comment on the statement,” he said. In the statement issued earlier on Monday, the Founding Parliament said in part, “on June 28, when the situation remained tense in Baghramyan Avenue and people feared that the police might use violence and illegal methods to disperse protesters, police chiefs and stooges of the regime used social networks and individuals to spread rumours that Zhirayr Sefilyan is a provocateur and it was Sefilyan who organized the protest in Baghramyan Avenue in order to gain political dividends. All this is done to blame the potential victims of police violence on Sefilyan.”
