Protesters start march to Presidential Palace
Protesters who have been staged a sit-in in Yerevan's Opera Square since Friday have started a march to the Presidential Palace at Baghramyan 26 despite the warning of Deputy Police Chief of Yerevan Valery Osipyan that the march is illegal. On Friday the activists of the No to Plunder initiative gave the Armenian authorities until Monday to revoke the decision of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) which decided on June 17 to raise the current electricity tariffs by AMD 6,93. The group said if their demand to curb electricity rate hikes is not met by Monday evening they would march to the Presidential Palace to pose their demands there. The group disagreed with the police official who declared the march illegal. The initiative decided to hold a peaceful march to the presidential compound despite the heavy police presence on the capital streets.
