National Assembly passes controversial changes to Law on Excise Tax
By a vote of 56-38, and two abstentions, the National Assembly today adopted the controversial amendments to the Law on Excise Tax which suggests increasing excise tax on tobacco, alcohol, petrol and diesel fuel. Before putting the bill to a vote, Zaruhi Postanjyan, a lawmaker from the opposition Heritage Party, said it was a dangerous bill which would lead to the increase in prices of many services. The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) said they would abstain from the vote, while the Country of Law (OEK) said they would vote against the bill.
