Tigran Urikhanyan: Yevgeny, come to your senses (video)
During today’s parliamentary hearings on the possible increase in electricity tariffs, Republican lawmaker Khosrov Harutyunyan called on his fellow colleagues to draw conclusions from the disrespectful behavior of the ENA (Electric Networks of Armenia) administration. “You should have sent back the letter of [ENA] Director Yevgeny Bibin,” Mr Harutyunyan said. Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, Vardan Ayvazyan, said they would follow the advice. Tigran Urikhanyan, a lawmaker from the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), started his speech with the words, “Yevgeny, come to your senses! Yevgeny, sober up! Is the ENA guided by the Armenian saying, “Thieves are always in fear of getting caught?” Naira Zohrabyan, Head of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction, said that the ENA, which joins monopoly in the sector, simply ignores Armenia’s legislative body. “We should draw conclusions from Bibin's behaviour,” she said. Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction, began his speech by reminding his colleagues that the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) is an anti-constitutional body. Then he produced a document [signed by Bibin] in which the ENA director included the money spent on charity in the company’s expenses instead of profits. Then Mr Zurabyan suggested depriving the ENA of its license and eliminating the monopoly in the sector. Also, he suggested reducing the number of the ENA employees, banning the use of ENA resources for political purposes, putting an end to charitable activities and false expenses. “We should put an end to this chain of corruption,” he said in conclusion.
