A Facebook group calling itself “We demand punishment for ENA (Electric Networks of Armenia) thieves” demands that relevant bodies disclose the abuse at the company and punish those guilty. “We shall not allow ENA officials to waste money on luxurious things at the expense of our citizens,” reads the statement of the group initiated by Tigran Urikhanyan’s Alliance Party. On June 10, the party is holding a rally at Liberty Square in Yerevan against the possible increase in electricity tariffs. “We demand that law enforcement agencies start criminal proceedings based on the statement of Ervand Zakharyan and punish everyone guilty. The already marginalized population cannot and will not pay for negligence, obscenity, ill management, theft as well as criminal permissiveness of some people,” the group said. Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), Robert Nazaryan, yesterday confirmed that the price of electricity will increase in Armenia. He also said the PSRC will inform the public of their position on the ENA bid to raise electricity tariffs on June 9 or 10. On May 8, Electric Networks of Armenia filed an application with the PSRC asking to raise the energy tariff for the population by 17.08 drams. In particular, according to the application, daytime (7 am-23 pm) and nighttime (23 pm-7am) tariffs should be raised to 58.93 drams and 48.93 drams per kilowatt-hour, respectively.
