Over 14 000 9th form pupils in Armenia are taking an examination in Armenian Language and Literature on June 1. Narine Hovhannisyan, Head of General Education department at the Ministry of Education and Science, say schools have received the tests from assessment and testing centers. Taking to reporters on Monday, the official said 4th form pupils will be taking two exams in Mathematics and Armenian Language, while 9th form pupils – six exams. In reply to A1+’s question whether pupils with excellent academic performance have ever happened to receive lower scores on tests, Narine Hovhannisyan said, “Exams will remain exams.” Speaking about the established practices of collecting money in the period leading to graduation parties, she said parents themselves initiate such fundraisers to use the money for graduation parties. At the same time, the Ministry representative urged parents to refrain from collecting money on different occasions. At the same time, she advised journalists to produce facts and if the Ministry learns that the principals are aware of money collecting they will be dismissed.
