Explosions at gas stations: What should drivers know?
Cases of gas station explosion have increased in Armenia in recent days. The latest incident was reported in Garni earlier on Thursday. Which rules are violated and what measures need to be taken to avoid such incidents? Vladimir Hovsepyan, a senior representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, said safety rules are often violated during refueling. “Blasts usually occur when gas tanks are filled up with excess gas. But the problem was partially solved after the construction of distribution towers which do not allow pumping excess fuel into a vehicle,” he said. Another cause of explosions at gas filling stations is a compressed gas cylinder which is not intended for vehicles. “In many cases, cylinders are outdated but drivers continue to use them. Gas cylinders must be tested every two years,” Mr Hovsepyan added.
