War veteran: I asked them to take me to the army (video)
Vachagan Davtyan, 90, is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. He went to the front when he was only a 16-year-old boy. “I was under 17. I went to the military registration and enlistment office and asked them to take me to the army, since I realized that our country was to be protected,” Vachagan Davtyan says. Then he continues proudly that he was a good soldier. “I was a caring and devoted soldier. I loved my homeland,” says Mr Davtyan. He served in the 89th Armenian division. The veteran says he lost many friends but is happy that ‘we were able to win the war.’ Mr Davtyan still remembers the songs sung during the war, he remembers every detail and trivial thing. Mr Vachagan does not like to speak about his personal life. “I had a good life. I was respected and honoured but now I live alone,” he says.
