Seyran Saroyan: Sefilyan ate much barbecue, therefore he was arrested (video)
Unlike his Republican teammate Manvel Grigoryan, Republican lawmaker Seyran Saroyan knows who Zhirayr Sefilyan is. “He is a freedom fighter. We have a lot of guys like him who participated in the Artsakh war. But why? He is a commander and we have a lot of guys like him.” When asked why Zhirayr Sefilyan, Commander of the Shushi Special Battalion was arrested on the threshold of April 24 events, Mr Saroyan said, “Let him stay out of trouble and nothing would happen to him.” Is it normal to arrest a person with explanations and then set him free? “Everything is normal. They [law enforcement agencies] had some suspects and arrested him. After seeing that everything is all right, they released him” Mr Saroyan burst out laughing when he learnt the charges brought against Sefilyan and his associates. “What did they find, you said? Skewers? Barbecue skewers, you said? Then it means he [Sefilyan] was arrested for eating a lot of barbecue,” he said. Speaking about the deplorable social conditions of Karabakh war fighters, the Republican MP said, “Everyone is worse off today.” When asked whether he encountered social problems as well, Mr Saroyan said, “No, I live well because my father had a lot of money.”
