Police make ARF-Dashnaktsutyun members remove canopy from Northern Avenue (video)
Members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun today were holding an awareness campaign on Northern Avenue in connection with May Day. They were distributing leaflets to passers-by, informing people about their rights. Hardly had the Dashnaktsutyun members started the campaign when they were approached by six policemen who urged them to immediately dismantle the canopy. Dashnaktsutyun member Mesrop Yesayan said he could not do it because he did not know how to close the canopy. The police officer, who did not introduce himself, began to shout at the group saying, “I have been waiting for them minutes but you do not want to comply with our demand.” Mesrop Yesayan then added that the Municipality had been notified of the campaign but the police officers would not listen to them. In the long run, they had to execute the order and continue the campaign without a canopy.
