American Armenian historian, Academician Richard Hovhannisian considers the speech of the Pope Francis to be big progress. The Pope called the Armenian Genocide the first genocide of the 20th century. “We also learn that Germany is ready to recognize the Armenian Genocide. This year the recognition of Genocide has been more widespread than ever,” Richard Hovhannisian told “A1+”. Mr. Hovhannisian thinks that the Diaspora has a big role in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and if the Diaspora didn’t exist, the Genocide would be forgotten, “With its limited capabilities the Diaspora fights against the denial policy and has had much success.” As to the Turkish policy, Richard Hovhannisian says that Turkey doesn’t want to take responsibility, which is unacceptable for us.
