Caroline Cox: “Life proved that Hitler was wrong”
“I regret to say that I am representing a country, which government today refuses to recognize the Armenian Genocide, I think it is a shame,” announced member of House of Lords of Great Britain, Baroness Caroline Cox during the International Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide. “It is a little bit joyful, that Wales and Scotland have recognized the Genocide, and they are parts of Great Britain.” She noted that it had been said at this important forum how much it is important to recognize the truth, the recognition of which is essential for reconciliation, recovery and further developments. Touching upon the speech of Pope Francis, she said she wants to bow to the Pope for his powerful statement, “I think it is in the interests of the Turkish people to recognize the Genocide and I appreciate that Turks are also taking part in this forum. I respect those people,” said Cox. Baroness reminded that many people gave their lives for the recognition of the Genocide, for example Hrant Dink.” At the end of her speech she also touched upon the statement once made by Adolf Hitler “who today remembers the genocide of Armenians”, “Life proved that it is wrong. We call on the people, who are interested in the revelation of the truth, to speak out for memory, because if the consequences of the crime and genocides aren’t recognized and condemned, they will be ongoing.” By the way, during her speech Baroness lost the pages of her speech and explained that it was because of the excitement of talking about that topic.
