Galust Grigoryan: Minibus 114 carries as many people as Tu-134 can
Galust Grigoryan, a resident of Proshyan village in Kotayk region, says the rural transport problem has become a major concern for them. “The village has a population of 5000, and most of the residents work or study in the capital. The entire village has been given one route which is also used by Yerevan citizens. Outdated Fords transport people which are in most deplorable and unsafe state. Despite their poor technical condition, the minibuses carry as many passengers as a Tu-134 can,” Galust Grigoryan said to A1+. In the past, villagers could get to the capital by Bus 19 and Minibus 114 but the buses were taken out of service. “I have the impression that the relevant authorities are waiting for accidents and victims to address the problem,” he added. A1+ contacted the Transport Department of Yerevan Municipality to know their opinion on the issue. We were told that the buses were removed from the route after the company operating them refused to service the route. The Municipality official also said the minibuses will be replaced when new buses are imported to the country.
