Prosecutor General to speak in parliament about Gyumri killings
"Doesn't the Armenian government follow the investigation into the January 12 murder of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri? Why did Armenian police and National Security Service fail to arrest Valeri Permyakov, the Russian soldier accused of killing the seven-member family? Now Permyakov is being kept at the 102th Russian Military Base in Gyumri and they cannot arrest him but yesterday they arrested members of the radical opposition group Founding Parliament allegedly for planning ‘mass disturbances’ on April 24. In fact, the opposition activists were arrested for their political views,” Armenian lawmaker Zaruhi Postanjyan said on April 8 during the question and answer session. Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan said the government will not comment on the arrest of oppositionists as the investigation is underway. Zaruhi Postanjyan also wanted to know the reply of the Russian side to Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan. In reply, Hovhannes Manukyan said Mr Kostanyan will speak in parliament about Gyumri killings in the near future.
