HAK urges everyone to rally in Liberty Square on March 1 and decide on their equivalent steps (video)
After the lawmakers of the Prosperous Armenia Party’s parliamentary faction announced that they were boycotting the four-day sitting of the National Assembly and left the hall, Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Levon Zurabyan said the HAK wanted to speak about the recent political developments in the country.
“We are not naive and we know that you [Galust Sahakyan – Speakr of the Armenian National Assembly supported Serzh Sargsyan in his actions against Gagik Tsarukyan, Leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). In the given situation, we think that you should announce the political reprisals orchestrated by Serzh Sargsyan against the 500 members of the BHK as an urgent matter, viewing it as an attack on our constitutional freedoms,” said Mr Zurabyan.
Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov hurried to interrupt the HAK lawmaker by saying, “We are not here to exchange ideas. First you make a speech and then ask your questions the BHK has its faction in parliament and does not need your support,” he said.
“If the National Assembly had a democratic chairman, he would set up a commission to study the abuse of Constitutional rights,” Levon Zurabyan continued.
“I accept you the way you are. I do not agree with your observations and ideas and I think that the National Assembly should not be turned into a stage for failures,” said Galust Sahakyan.
“I urge everyone to come to Liberty Square on March 1 to participate in the rally and decide on our equivalent response,” said Zurabyan.
