I do not plead guilty but from the day of the accident I have been making conciliatory gestures, Armenian actor Vardan Petrosyan announced at a court in Kotayk maz. In his speech Vardan Petrosyan said he was sorry for the accident and ‘would bear the cross’ all his life. “I am really sorry for the accident. Believe it or not! May God be with you,” he said. “Please, believe me, I am not a criminal. All my efforts to reconcile with the relatives of the killed children have been labeled as role-playing. Do you think I have nothing else to day but sit in a prison and cell and roleplay,” he said. Petrosyan was taken to jail in connection with the deadly road accident on October 20, 2013, in which his BMW collided with another vehicle, Niva, on the Yeghvard-Yerevan highway. Two Niva passengers were killed in the crash. Petrosyan himself was among the injured people who were hospitalized that night. Petrosyan was soon taken into custody and charged with “negligent breach of traffic rules, which causes death.”  If convicted, Petrosyan faces a sentence of 4–10 years in prison.
