Avetik Ishkanyan released
While residents in Armenia’s Gyumri city were holding a protest outside the Russian Consulate demanding the handover of Valery Permyakov, the Russian soldier accused of murdering a local family, a spontaneous protest broke out in Yerevan’s Liberty Square late on Thursday. At least two dozen of them were detained by plainclothes police officers. One of the detainees was human rights activist Avetik Ishkanyan, who was released some time later. Talking to A1+, the human rights activist said that he was detained for not complying with the requirements of a police officer. He did not sign the protocol. All detainees were set free at night.
