Overall, 2000 complaints against the Republic of Armenia were filed with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) from 2000 to November 1, 2014. Forty-nine verdicts were passed in relation to Armenia, Armenia’s Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan said on Monday during an event marking the 10th anniversary of cooperation between the ECHR and Armenia. By November 1, 2014, the complainants had claimed €15,260,000 in compensation, with only €574,000 being paid until now. “Only 26 percent of the money was paid from non-budgetary funds,” Mr Kostanyan said, adding that the whole amount will be paid gradually. Gevorg Kostanyan also dismissed the reports about a conflict with Chairman of the Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan. “I do not have any problem with anyone. If any official commits a crime, charges are brought against him. We carry out our activities, regardless of the fact how they will be interpreted,” he stressed.
