Man suspected of attack on Aram Manukyan set free
Arshak Svazyan, the 42-year-old man detained in connection with last week’s attack on opposition lawmaker Aram Manukyan, has been sent home after giving give a written undertaking not to leave the city, armtimes.com reports. According to press reports, Arshak Svazyan worked for Republican MP Arakel Movsisyan (aka Shmays) as his driver. Aram Manukyan, a senior member of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK), was attack by an unknown assailant as he was returning home yesterday evening. The attacker did not say anything to Manukyan, but at once started hitting him in the face and then took to flight. HAK representatives connect the attack with the lawmaker’s political activities and say it was politically motivated. On Sunday, December 14, the police said they had detained the man suspected of the attack. The man was identified as Arshak Svazyan born in 1973.
