Nikol Pashinyan calls on NSS to identify those who feed on petrodollars (video)
Opposition lawmaker Nikol Pashinyan today called on the National Security Service to pay attention to Republican MP Vahran Baghdasaryan’s statement and find out who ‘feeds on Aliyev’s petrodollars’ as was announcement by the Republican official. “If the relevant evidence is not produced, we can state that Aliyev is a smokescreen for the government who carry out dark activities under the guise. I shall keep an eye on the process. Either we shall find out those who gulp the petrodollars or we shall have to agree with the famous words of [Benjamin] Franklin who said ‘patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel,” said Pashinyan. Angered by the opposition lawmaker’s speech, Republican MP Hayk Babukhanyan decided to correct him. “The quote belongs to [Samuel] Johnson and not Franklin. You are fabricating the original meaning. That is why we should not put our personal interests ahead above national interests,” he said. Babukhanyan also urged to examine the sources of funds that come from foreign organizations and reflect the wishes and thoughts of our hostile neighbor. At the end of the discussion Vice-Speaker of the Armenia parliament, Eduard Sharmazanov said, “The exchange of thoughts spiced with quotations from classics is over.”
