ZCMC Tailing Dumps Costing 10 Billion USD To Be Processed - EcoLur
‘Aylotig’ LLC intends to become the owner of the reclaimed Voghji and Pukhrut tailing dumps currently owned by “Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine” CJSC, as well as Artsvanik tailing dump after is reclaiming and to process their tails, as “Memorandum on Intentions” draft document says approved by the Armenian Government on 16 October, EcoLur reports. ‘Aylotig’ LLC intends to construct and operate a plant processing the ores accumulated in the tailing dumps. For this purpose, VSEI enterprise group will make investment of at least US $ 200 million for projecting, constructing and operating the processing plant, where 1800 working places will be created. It should be mentioned that Hrachya Avagyan, Chief Specialist of RA NAS Economics Institute, Dr. in Geological and Mineral Sciences authored a scientific monograph entitled “Ways and Prospects of Mining and Metallurgical Industries in the Republic of Armenia” (Yerevan 2011, “Gitutyun” Publishing House, Institute of Economics of NAS RA), which says, “The calculations show that in recent 58 years (from 1951 to 2009) 318.2 million tons of ore were mines and processed from Qajaran mine and the value of badly extracted natural resources in the tailing dumps makes up 9,976,600,000 AMD (annually the natural wealth dumped into tailing dumps makes up, on average – 172.01 million AMD). ‘Aylotig’ LLC will undertake all responsibility for the tailing dumps as soon as it obtains them. ‘Cronimet Mining’ and ZCMC expressed their intention to allow ‘Aylotig’ LLC to take free of charge the industrial mass from the tail pipeline of Artsvanik tailing dump, while ‘Aylotig’ LLC is willing to financially support ZCMC to construction a new industrial waste dump.
