Ara Abrahamyan on Gagik Tsarukyan's 'aspirations' to become president (video)
Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union on October 10 was an important event, says the chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia. Ara Abrahamyan says they are holding a meeting on October 16, and everyone is free to participate in the meeting and present their programs. Mr Abrahamyan says the most important for him is Armenia’s safety and security. He reminds that Armenia has close political ties with the Russian Federation, which will be maintained in the future, and Armenia will not lose its independence. Nor will the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic suffer from the deal with the EEU ‘as Serzh Sargsyan will not allow it to happen.’ Ara Abrahamyan says Armenia can suspend its membership to the EEU whenever it wants. Speaking about the economic situation in Russia and the sanctions imposed on the country by the West, as well as their possible influence on Armenia, the businessman expressed hope that the issue of sanctions will soon be solved. Ara Abrahamyan also referred to the political situation in Armenia and said the three major opposition forces should submit definite programs as they cannot achieve anything with talks. “All forces should cooperate in order to ensure stability in the country: Serzh Sargsyan is doing everything possible.” Mr Abrahamyan also commented on the statement of Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) Leader Gagik Tsarukyan who recently expressed readiness to run for president. ‘There should be a stable political environment so that everyone will know his place,’ he stressed. “I do not want to draw parallels but only through elections will it be possible to change power,” said Mr Abrahamyan.
