Addressing the ralliers in Armenia’s Gyumri city, Head of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Levon Zurabyan focused on the problems faced by small and medium businesses and farmers. He stressed that people living in villages have to slaughter cows and sell one kilo of beef for only 1200 drams to be able to pay off loans. “The state is to shoulder the burden and relieve the plight of farmers. The government could have eased the burden but they have not taken any step because they do not want their citizens to lead a decent life. They want to appropriate the lands belonging to farmers and force villagers to work for them as slaves,” said Mr Zurabyan. Then he spoke about the policy of [former prime minister] Tigran Sargsyan.  “We had a prime minister named Tigran Sargsyan. Do you remember him? He was very intelligent and wanted to turn Gyumri into a port. I remember him saying in one of his interviews, “What should I do? Do everything so that those people don't feel Armenia, that critical mass stay here and start a revolution? Today’s authorities are cheaters. They are immodest people,” he said. Speaking about the October 10 massive rally to be held by the three opposition forces in Yerevan, Mr Zurabyan said on that day Armenia is expected to sign the treaty on its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union. “There have been talks that the date of the rally was chosen deliberately as we do not want Serzh Sargsyan to sign the agreement.  Then, the same people go to the West and say that the rally is held on October 10 intentionally to force Serzh Sargsyan to join the European Union. How can they distort the reality in such a way and play an ambiguous game? This deplorable behaviour testifies the authorities' fear.  The date of the rally simply coincided with the signing of the agreement. Our primary goal is to topple the authorities and establish democracy. On October 10, we are starting a well-calculated process that will lead to a change of government and radical changes,” he said.
