Turkey isn’t ready to recognize Armenian Genocide. YSU rector, historian Aram Simonyan thinks that we will witness anti-Armenian policy of official Ankara for a long time. The speaker notes that today denial is a part of Turkish identity, as Genocide memory is a part of Armenian identity. The recognition of Genocide supposes compensation in the form of lands and millions of dollars. This is the reason that big countries use Armenian issue for influencing and putting pressure on Turkey. According to the words of politician Levon Shirinyan, the announcements of different countries condemning Armenian Genocide don’t pass the moral platform. “We must understand one thing that there is the interest of particular country in those recognitions, and something moral for humanity,”- said the politician. Aram Simonyan stressed the following, “Present and all other Presidents of the USA stressed during their elections that they would surely put their efforts for the recognition of Genocide, but after being elected, they chose another policy in that issue.” The speakers are sure that together with relying on the support of international society for the success in Genocide recognition, Armenia must strengthen its political, financial, intellectual and military potential. “It is a long lasting fight, it is a fight for the return of Armenia, but Armenia must be strong in order not to become a toy in the hands of big countries,”- assures Levon Shirinyan.
