What will Ara Ghazaryan do at ECtHR? (video)
The election of judges to the European Court of Human Rights is underway in Yerevan. One of the candidates to the European Court of Human Rights Ara Ghazaryan has a clear vision of his work at the ECtHR if he is elected as an ECtHR judge. “First of all we should develop human rights on the European level and not limit ourselves to protecting human rights only in Armenia,” he said. The member of the Yerevan-based Forum Law Centre is also interested in ECtHR judgment on the Karabakh issue, Perincek case, as well as the recent severe and widespread violations of human rights in border regions. After the election, the list of the three potential candidates will be submitted to Serzh Sargsyan, who is to make a decision on their appointment within five days. “If the President approves the list, it will be sent to the ECtHR. The latter will elect one candidate from Armenia. And if the list is rejected, there will be new elections,” said Tsovinar Khachatryan, a spokesperson for the Justice Ministry.
