Distinguished teacher Mari Tonoyan always enters the classroom with pleasure and new ideas. She has been teaching Harmony at the Tchaikovsky Music School for 75 years and has educated many generations. The 95-year-old woman believes that this will not be her last class and she will teach more pupils. “I have told our principal [Martun Alexnadrovitch] that if they want to shorten my life, they can fire me at once,” says Mari Tonoyan. She describes herself as a strict but a kind teacher. “Pupils take an example from their teachers. We are dealing with a candle; we should not only give it a shape, but also educate it,” she said. Mari Tonoyan was only 18 when she first entered a classroom. She immediately understood that teaching was her mission. She has educated numerous musicians since then, including her children and grandchildren. She has always maintained impartiality and has been even stricter with her children. The distinguished teacher does not spare her efforts and energy to transfer her knowledge and skills to future generations.
