With a 40-3 vote, the National Assembly today refused to include in the agenda of the four-day sitting the initiative of opposition lawmaker Nikol Pashinyan who proposed to grant privileges to 40 border communities. Fifty-four MPs abstained from the vote. While Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan hailed Pashinyan’s initiative, he said the factions had submitted similar proposals which are already under consideration. “We do not want to create the impression that we are against the initiative. It is no sense doing anything with sectoral laws,” he said. Zaruhi Postanjyan, a lawmaker of the opposition Heritage faction, urged her fellow colleagues to vote for Pashinyan’s initiative. Head of the Republican faction Vahram Baghdasaryan said they would consider Pashinyan’s proposal to ensure that no border community is neglected. “Should the initiative be included in the agenda it would make all factions, as co-authors support it with their proposals,” said Mr Pashinyan.
