Opposition troika rallies supporters in Abovyan, calls for power change (video)
The three opposition parties in Armenia began on Tuesday their joint nationwide rallies in Abovyan, a town in Kotayk province located some 16 kilometres northeast of Yerevan. The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and the Heritage Party rallied several thousand supporters in Abovyan ahead of their major rally to be held in Yerevan on October 10, which the troika sasys is aimed at saving the country from destruction. “The government has left the state in the grip of corrupt and criminal people,” said BHK Secretary Naira Zohrabyan. She reminded the public that the controversial constitutional reforms are aimed at retaining dictatorial control in the country for another ten years. Armen Martirosyan, a senior Heritage member, spokes about the need of power change. “There is no other opinion,” he stressed. “The change of a prime minister is not enough. Let us imagine that they dismissed Hovik [Abrahamyan]. Who will come to replace him – Galust [Sahakyan]? Therefore, we call for a change in power to ensure real reforms.” “Until Serzh Sarkgsyan’s regime leaves Armenia, this country will have no chances of development,” added Head of the HAK faction levon Zurabyan.
