Folk song and dance on the verge of disappearance (video)
“Gutan” Folk Song and Dance Festival is due to be held at the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden on September 30. Honored Artist of Armenia Arsen Grigoryan says the festival is directly connected with the need to preserve the type of the Armenian nation. “Finally, we shall hold a festival that will bring together all ethnic groups, and we shall be able to present the entire Armenia on one stage - from Cilicia to Artsakh,” said Mr Grigoryan. Sargis Alaverdyan, Artistic Director of "Akunk" ethnographic ensemble, expressed his concerns over the fact that Armenian folk songs and dances are today on the verge of disappearance: in order to save the old masterpieces and pearls of culture we need state care, specifically the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture for the release and maintenance of CDs and DVDs.
