Accessibility inferior to buildings’ coloring?
There are already 250 signatures for raising money for providing accessibility in Yerevan. “The city which is comfortable for disabled people is comfortable for everyone,”- the head of the action and Disability info website editor Zaruhi Batoyan said to A1+. There are 61.000 disabled people living in Yerevan. Because of inaccessible environment, most of them are deprived of the opportunity to move freely. “This year the Municipality has provided 70 millions for accessibility, but last year it provided 310 millions AMD for buildings’ coloring and celebrations of Yerevan. With that money it would be possible to install 103 elevators at schools or to make the same number of buses accessible in our city,”- added Zaruhi Batoyan. The petition started yesterday and will last unless the last paper is signed. There are about 3000 papers. In the end the signatures will be handed to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan.
