Armenia’s economy is in a deplorable condition, say the country’s economists. "The economy has been and still remains dependent on transfers and the prices of copper. What we today call economy is nothing but a bubble,” says economist Hayk Gevorgyan. Economist Vartan Bostanjyan blames the grave economic situation on the policy carried out by the authorities. “While Tigran Sargsyan was Armenia’s Prime Minister, the country was unable to bypass the global economic crisis, Armenia's economy declined by 14.4 percent – one of the largest declines in the global economy,” says economist Hayk Gevorgyan. He says Tigran Sargsyan failed to do what he was supposed to do during his 6-year tenure of office. “Tigran Sargsyan should have put an end to monopolies, established healthy economic environment whereas we saw the opposite, the entire economy was monopolized.”
