Republican MP: The walls in Armenian President’s house are not made of gold (video)
Karen Avagyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) parliamentary group, does not know whether officials in Armenia live in luxurious palaces or not. The 40-year-old Republican MP says one cannot compare the modest life of our officials with the immodest and gorgeous lifestyle of the ousted Ukrainian president and general prosecutor. Karen Avagyan refrained from commenting on the reports that Serzh Sargsyan has spent $190 000 on a stem cell transplant in Japan. “These talks are characteristic of malicious and wicked people,” he said. Hermine Naghdalyan, Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly, says the word “palace” can be interpreted in different ways. “I have seen a wealth of things in our officials’ flats and homes.” Asked why a poor country like Armenia should not have well-off officials, Ms. Naghdalyan said our journalists had better speak about poverty in Armenia rather than be fascinated by the gilded palaces of Yanukovych’s teammates. Ashot Aghababyan, another Republican lawmaker, also declined to compare the lifestyle of Armenian and Ukrainian officials. The MP has never been at Serzh Sargsyan’s house but assures everyone that the walls in Armenian President’s home are not made of gold. Mr. Aghababyan says he knows Serzh Sargsyan well enough. “Unlike Yanukovych, he [Serzh Sargsyan] has passed through the hardships of war.”
