Seyarn Ohanyan: Every day we are preparing for war
There is always a danger of war, Armenian Defense Minister Seyarn Ohanyan said at Erebuni airport where the military hardware of the Aviation, Air Defense and other units of the Armenian Armed Forces were put on display.
"Every day we are preparing for war, every day we are improving our skills and abilities but today's opportunities are not so great despite the geopolitical situation, security environment, threats around Armenia and in the entire region, which have always been perceived," he said.
The demonstration was arranged on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the formation of Armenia's air force and anti-aircraft forces. The minister said that Armenia is constantly improving its air force and anti-aircraft forces.
Speaking about Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's bellicose statements, Seyran Ohanyan said Armenia is for the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, based on mutual understanding.
Political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan, in turn, said Aliyev will continue making such statements for several years. "His strategy is understandable to some extent as with the military rhetoric Aliyev tries to retain power and win dividends ahead of next year's presidential election in Azerbaijan."
