After staying in the consulting room for three hours Judge Gagik Poghosyan returned to the courtroom to reject the motion of lawyer Alexander Sirunyan to release his client Vardan Sedrakyan and the other two defendants in the dock on bail.

Former president candidate Vardan Sedrakyan is accused of masterminding the assassination attempt against his election rival Paruyr Hayrikyan who was shot in the shoulder outside his Yerevan home in January ahead of the February 18 presidential election. To this day, Sedrakyan has not pleaded guilty to the charges levied against him.

Earlier, Sedrakyan's lawyer had submitted a motion asking the court to replace custody by a non-custodial punishment, guaranteeing that his client would not impede the trial or hide from law enforcement agencies.
