Will court change Sedrakyan's restraint?
Gagik Poghosyan, the judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork Marash districts, has retired to the consulting room where he is to determine the restraint of former presidential candidate Vardan Sedrakyan.
The petition to replace custody by a non-custodial punishment was submitted by Sedrakyan's lawyer Alexander Sirunyan who said his client would not impede the trial or hide from law enforcement agencies. Sirunyan offered as a pledge Sedrakyan's movable and immovable property and added that no evidence has been produced in court proving the guilt of his client.
Vardan Sedrakyan is accused of masterminding the assassination attempt against his election rival Paruyr Hayrikyan who was shot in the shoulder outside his Yerevan home in January ahead of the February 18 presidential election. To this day, Sedrakyan has not pleaded guilty to the charges levied against him.
