Galust Sahakyan on new head of Syunik province
When the head of the government finds it expedient he will appoint a new governor of Syunik province, Head of the Republican Party faction, Galust Sahakyan, said on June 24.
He says at present the Republican Party has no intention to discuss the appointment of governors as they are still reviewing their work and holding discussions in Governor's Offices.
When asked to comment on the future of Surik Khachatryan, the former governor of Syunik, Galust Sahakyan said the relevant bodies are [robbing into the case. At the same time, he brushed off the allegations that Khachatryan is likely to return to his previous position.
The Republican official also said that no changes are expected in the Cabinet in the upcoming months.
Speaking about the recent offshore scandal which also involves Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Mr Sahakyan said it cannot lead to the premier's resignation.
With regard to the revelations made by the Control Chamber, the Republican representative said all criminals should be disclosed and brought to justice. "We cannot distinguish between partisans and non-partisans. If they are charges, they must be either refuted or confirmed. This is the way we are going."
