Surenavan community has new head
A member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia won Sunday's early election in Surenavan community in Ararat province. Karo Karapetyan beat his rival Vazgen Ghazaryan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) with 100 votes.
Two candidates are vying for the seat of the community head - Karo Karapetyan and Vazgen Ghazaryan. Both of them were unemployed. Ghazaryan is the brother of former village head Vardges Ghazaryan, who died in a car accident on Yerevan-Yeraskhavan roadway in May 2013.
The community has 1950 eligible voters. About 1374 people went to the polls, 723 of whom voted for Karapetyan and 623 for Ghazaryan. Twenty-six ballots were recognized as invalid.
