mLab ECA opens new office in Yerevan

Armenia's Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the opening ceremony of a new office of the Regional Mobile Application Laboratory (mLab ECA).

The head of the government walked around the premises and got acquainted with innovative projects of young people studying at the laboratory.

The mLab ECA started its activities in Armenia in 2011 with a view to introducing mobile communication innovations and contributing to sustainable developments in region.

The mLab ECA is funded by infoDev, a donor-funded program in the World Bank's Financial and Private Sector Development Vice Presidency, as part of the Government of Finland and Nokia joint program on Creating Sustainable Businesses in the Knowledge Economy, with the involvement of Armenia's government and the Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF).

Nokia has established five similar laboratories throughout the world, with the laboratory intended for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia located in Armenia. Two similar laboratories operate in Africa and the other two in Asia..

The goal of mLab is to promote the development and increase the competitiveness of regional mobile solutions in global markets. More than 20 startups, 70 mobile applications have been created with the support of mLab and with a total investment of about $100,000 in Android, iOS in Windows Phone platforms.

The mLab organized more than 20 training courses in Yerevan and Gyumri, with about 180 experts raising their professional level in mobile technologies. Eighty percent of attendees have found job in Yerevan and Gyumri.
