Our citizens will not feel the rise in the minimum monthly wage, says economist Vahagn Khachatryan.

"The increase will only affect us as they (authorities) will force small and medium-sized enterprises that pay minimum wages to additionally increase prices," he said.

"This is another populist step taken by the government. I have always said that our government is more populist than the opposition. The opposition would never make such ungrounded statements," said the member of the opposition Armenian National Congress.

He says the increase in wages is nothing against the background of the raised gas and electricity tariffs.
"The authorities simply imitate to be caring for their citizens. I just want to advise my fellow citizens to fear from the authorities who care for their citizens too much," Mr Khachatryan said in conclusion.

Starting July 1, minimum monthly wage in Armenia will be raised from AMD 35,000 to AMD 45,000.
