Hayrikyan's neighbours bear testimony in court
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash Communities today resumed the hearing of the case against, against Vardan Sedrakyan, a former presidential candidate accused of masterminding the assassination attempt against his election rival Paruyr Hayrikyan.
Sedrakyan's defense lawyer Alexander Sirunyan today announced that neither the facts nor the evidence given by the witnesses in the past four sittings proved his client's guilt.
"Do you possess any evidence proving that Sedrakyan is guilty of any crime," asked the lawyer.
Prosecutor Aram Amirzadyan said that the case material is stored in volumes and promised to speak about it after the trial.
Today the court heard Hayrikyan's neighbours.
Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot in the shoulder outside his Yerevan home in January ahead of the February 18 presidential election. In March, Vardan Sedrakyan was charged with ordering an assassination attempt against Paruyr Hayrikyan. Sedrakyan did not plead guilty to the charges levied against him.
