Will Syunik governor emerge unscathed?
Vice-Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Armen Ashotyan, today referred to Saturday's shootout near the house of the Syunik governor.
"A criminal case has been instituted in connection with the deadly incident and I hope that those guilty will be brought to justice," he said.
In reply to a journalist's question whether Syunik governor Surik Khachatryan will again "come off clear," Mr Ashotyan said, "first, we should determine who are the guilty persons and then prevent them from emerging unscathed, as you say."
RPA lawmakers today avoided speaking about the deadly gunfight in Goris. Talking to A1+, RPA MP Khosrov Harutyunyan said he was unaware of the recent news.
Avo Budaghyan, a former mayoral candidate in Goris in 2009, was killed and his brother Artak Budaghyan, a commander at a military unit in Karabakh, was seriously wounded during the shootout near the house of the Syunik governor Surik Khachatryan at around 11 p.m. June 1. Nikolay Abrahamyan, a relative and bodyguard of Surik Khachatryan, was also wounded in the shootout.
