Negotiations on Syria issue
During a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel and Russia can work together to make Middle East safer and more secure.
Israel and Western states are concerned about the fact that Russia intends to sell modern air-defense systems to Syria, as those systems can cause significant difficulties when used against air strikes directed to Bashar Al Assad forces.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had said last week, that his country finishes the provision of weapons to Syria in the framework of existing agreement between two countries. Yet he had not mentioned if those weapons include modern "S-300" air-defense missile systems.
Negotiations between Netanyahu and Putin are part of effort directed to hold an international conference on Syrian issue as suggested by the USA and Russia. The possibility of such conference, which participant list would also include members of Syrian government and opposition, has been discussed by the president of Russia, American Foreign Minister John Kerry and PM of Great Britain David Cameron. Yet it is not clear if any of conflicting sides will express readiness to partake in the conference.
The state agency of Syria, "SANA", has published the address of country's information minister, according to which Syrian government needs more information about the conference to decide if they will participate in it. He also added, that the authorities of Syria will not take part in any dialogue which may violate country's sovereignty.
