Galust Sahakyan: Raffi continued to sing his song
Galust Sahakyan, Vice Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was glad that Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian polled 37% in February's presidential elections. Talking to reporters on Monday, Sahakyan said it was exactly what the government wanted.
The RPA official is disappointed by Hovannisian. At the same time, he says the joint prayer of Raffi Hovannisian and Chief of Armenian Police Vladimir Gasparyan should not be viewed as the main reason for the opposition's failure.
"Armenians have always prayed both in public and in their minds. Vova (Vladimir) Galsparyan is also an Armenian," he said.
Asked what Hovannisian was to have done to achieve success, Galust Sahakyan said, "As an opposition leader he was to upgrade his offices in regions and speak with authorities. We offered them control mechanisms, was it a bad offer?"
"Instead of negotiating with the authorities Hovannisian continued to sing his song, finally scattering the opposition," Mr Sahakyan said.
