Former presidential candidate, epos expert Vardan Sedrakyan is being tried solely based on the testimony of one person, Sedrakyan's lawyer Alexander Sirunyan told reporters on May 13.

Sirunyan says he does not see the role of his client in the 6-volume criminal case filed against Sedrakyan.

The ex- presidential candidate was arrested on March 5 for masterminding assassination attempt against another presidential candidate, Chairman of the National Self-Determination Union party, Paruyr Hayrikyan.

Sedrakyan was arrested with another two men, who had worked for him when he was renovating his house. Khachatur Poghosyan, 46, and Samvel Harutyunyan, 40, confessed to "the murder attempt" after being taken into custody.
In the testimony, Poghosyan wrote that Samvel Harutyunyan had told him that Sedrakyan had instructed him ‘to threaten' Paruyr Hayrikyan.

The lawyer says they want to ‘break' Sedrakyan. Besides, Sirunyan says the alleged killer, Khachatur Poghosyan, has nothing to do with the assassination attempt as they cannot find the weapon, cartridges...

Alexander Sirunyan did not deny that his client had given the two men $ 1000 and says the money was given for the repair work they had done in Sedrakyan's house.
"The case resembles a Brazilyan serial, as according to the indictment Sedrakyan had told the two men that he would "reward them after doing the work," said the lawyer.
"Have you ever heard killers take money after the murder?" said the lawyer.
Sirunyan says if they appeal the case in the European Court, it will dismiss the charges finding them ungrounded.

Sedrakyan has not pleaded guilty of the crime. He only suggested that he could not possibly have had any links to the crime against Hayrikyan. He also said that lots of people had worked for him before. In a televised interview before the elections, Sedrakyan also claimed that the authorities planned to arrest him after the end of the elections.
