Manana Aslamazyan: Journalists did not check information
In the May 5 municipal election in Yerevan, part of journalists published information on election violations without checking the authenticity of the information, says Manana Aslamazyan, Director of "Alternative Resources in Media" program.
She says upon receiving reports on violations, journalists must first verify the information and then publish it in the media.
"I witnessed the opposite; they were simply copying the material from Iditord," she said.
While Manana Aslamazyan highlighted the swiftness and resourcefulness in elections, she stressed that the material cannot be published unless a journalist has footage of it.
"One more thing that I would like to speak about. They say everyone knows that bribe was distributed to voters, but unless you check the information, at least three people confirm it and give a photo of bribe-taking, you cannot write about it," she concluded.
