Opposition parties should be more aggressive and steadfast in their activities in order to poll votes, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern told A1+ in reply to the question how the opposition can come to power if it is impossible to do through elections.

"By saying aggressive I do not mean that they should be bellicose and truculent, I mean to say that they need to determine and organize the party's interests more actively," said the U.S. Ambassador.

Asked whether the Armenian National Congress and Heritage can be aggressive and invariable, the Ambassador had difficulty replying the question.

In order to achieve success the opposition should take steps; at least it should be aware of the violations committed in elections, he stressed.

"The opposition should be able to specify violations and find ways to address them," said Mr Heffern.

The U.S. Ambassador says the opposition should be given equal footing, for example, it must have the opportunity to work with media.

John Heffern refrained from answering the question whether the U.S. State Department has the so-called Magnitsky List for Armenian officials, who, accordingly, will be denied entry to the U.S. He only said U.S. visas are issued according to fixed procedures.
